SPIRITUAL SYMBOLOGY

Where the fine arts, writing and music have centuries of history, our chosen endeavor of graphic design is only a few decades old. The symbols presented in this work come from societies across the globe, thousands of years ago, with one purpose, to communicate a language of faith; a faith in a higher creator and a life beyond this one on earth. Those in history elected to create these symbols of spirituality had no degree. There were no art schools. There were no haughty award shows where the judges vote to select their own work as worthy of winning. Logo design was not a term created by a capitalistic society suffocating from monetary gain. Yet the symbols/pictograms the ancients created were “logos” that spoke to thousands. These people knew instinctively that communication needed to be wide, simple, clean and easily recognizable by an entire community. Their task of branding an idea or belief was not unlike ours. In fact, it was just like ours today.

Spiritual symbolism propelled communication across continents. Although many wars have been waged in the name of religion, it doesn’t take a genius to understand that true “spiritual enlightenment” was never the instigator.
