PRINCIPLES OF HARMONY IN MY WHIMSICAL GARDEN

My MFA journey began with a study of how the creative brain functions and the dualistic traits of creative people. I recognized my dualistic personas of Amazon (leader) and Fairy (creative) and used the concepts of masking, totemism, alchemy, and sacred geometry as platforms for exploring duality, symbols, and animal archetypes to create my own totem. After numerous design explorations, I found fulfillment and joy in making altered books. Experiments with different techniques revealed folding to be highly rewarding and my interest in origami was rekindled. Folding has a meditative quality. It helps me feel balanced and has become a practice that fac ilitates my creative thinking process.

Welcome to my garden! Nature is where I feel grounded. Nature rejuvenates and inspires me and is where my Fairy-Amazon personas are in harmony. Hidden words and messages reflect my view that the connection humanity has with nature is easily overlooked. Another garden feature is a collaboration with fellow graduate, Michelle Muhammad, entitled “Walk-and-Share.” The photos highlight our shared connections of nature and friendship.
