WORK IN PROGRESS: FINDING MYSELF AND MY LOVE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN THROUGH FOOD

My thesis is entitled Work In Progress and it describes my development as a graphic designer. I engage in an in-depth self reflection and writing that explored my personal experiences growing up in a family with a strong Dutch heritage, my conflict with and acceptance of my gay identity, and my culinary upbringing and eventually maturation as a chef. Along with immersion into the literature, I used these writings to connect my personal stories to a broader meaning and understanding of graphic design.

I used a food truck as a metaphor to express my identity and medium to demonstrate my graphic design philosophy. Key to my design philosophy are practicality, sensible design elements, importance of human connection.
