X-ING

My work is created using found or unusual materials. “X-ing, ” began after the discovery of a sun bleached animal backbone on a desolate gravel road in northern Wisconsin. No one noticed or seemed to care for this creature. How sad being left there on the road for several seasons, until only the backbone remained. Animals are not unlike people who live on the streets, barely noticed until they are gone.

“X-ing” started with photocopy of the bones. A solar plate was made and then the image was printed in bone black ink on RiverPoint® Paper. The poem, “X-ing,” was letterpress next to and on top of the image. Dried grass was embroidered on the paper in select places. A relief of a tire tread was kiln cast in glass. Silk screen leaves were then fired on the glass.
